January meeting , Fri day afternoon the 12th, at the Church annex.&#13;
The Extension Club quilt will be kept until a time of need arises~&#13;
Vi.rs. Eula Preston took the quilt ho~e to finish binding . Refreshments were served by Ers . Vivian Richmond and Hrs. Laverne Klusman.&#13;
The February me e ting will be the FHA Tea at the Home Ee. room&#13;
at the Ignacio High School buidling at 2:30 on the ninth.&#13;

Hable Bigham and Frank Gray, two long time Bayfield residents&#13;
died in December.&#13;
Mable C. Bigham 95, died in the Bayfield Valley View Nursing&#13;
Home where she had made her home for a number of years. Her daughter,&#13;
Arlene Beaver, operates the Nursing Home.&#13;
&#13;
A retired school teacher, Hrs. Bigham was a member of the Durango&#13;
Christian Church, the Sarah Rebekah Lodge, a charter member of the&#13;
Bayfield City Club and a member of the Bayfield Library Board,&#13;
Mrs. Bigham was born September 9, 1883 in Indiana and had lived&#13;
Her husband, Matthew, died in 1958.&#13;
&#13;
in the Bayfield area since 1933,&#13;
&#13;
Two daughters survive, Mrs. Beaver of Bayfield and Hrs. Jack&#13;
Swilling in Durango. A sister, Kate Gragg lives in Santa Fe.&#13;
Services were in the Durango Christian Church with Rev. Atwell&#13;
officiating. Burial was in Greelli'lount Cemetery.&#13;

Mr. Anderson is a district supervisor for Mountain Bell and&#13;
Mrs. Ander son teaches four th grade . Their daughter, Starla attends&#13;
the college in Farmington and also works for Schrivener Investment&#13;
Company. Darla is attending Farmington High School.&#13;

�On the 28th of December while the Karl Hauerts were in the stores&#13;
in Ignacio exchanging various gifts that were too large or too small,&#13;
Hr. &amp; Mrs. Edga r Westbrook were busy at the Hauert home. ¼1hen Eda and&#13;
Karl returned the table was set, there was a hot dinner in the oven&#13;
and a be_autiful birthday cake on the table. The cake was in honor of&#13;
Eda Hauert ' s 85th birthday.&#13;
Thanks were given to the Heavenly Father for all these blessings&#13;
and the Hauerts and Westbrooks enjoyed the dinner and the visiting.&#13;
Then another car drove up to Hauerts bringing more dear friends&#13;
from Bayfield, the Carl Busty family. Kimberly Bushy played the piano&#13;
and the group sang Christmas songs.&#13;
The young folks enjoyed seeing all the old-fashioned candles,&#13;
angels with tinkling bells and other decorations.&#13;
Edgar asked Karl for the house key and that set things in motion&#13;
for the Westbrooks to bring the already cooked dinner, have the silverware and cake on the table when the Hauerts came back to the house.&#13;
l-u-s, Hauert said she had had a few otner birthdays, but none as lovely&#13;
as this one on her 85th birthday.&#13;

with the faoilies of both 1.:r. &amp; :.frs. Ellison. Carol, a freshzan in&#13;
college in Duluth, 1•:inn. joined the far::ily in 1':onticello and returned to Ignacio with them for another week of vacation. She left&#13;
on the seventh to return to Duluth and encounted a few problems&#13;
then too.&#13;

Lyday:came back to this area to learn to ski and camp out at the&#13;
Lyday~s cabin below the Vallecito Dam . He got in some shoveling too.&#13;
All w~nt well except , on his way back Sunday on the icy road toward&#13;
Farmiqgton. In trying to avoid another vehicle he went off the road&#13;
and h~t a pole . He was uninjured, but his car was damaged and he had&#13;
to stay overnight, Sunday, the seventh, in order to get repairs on&#13;
Monday.&#13;
Arrangements were made in Ignacio for him to stay overnight with&#13;
Calene and Ji~ Anderson. Thus, two forner Ignacio residents Stephen&#13;
and Calene became acquainted.&#13;

Harold Dittmar, a former Ignacio resident, died Dece~ber 24,&#13;
in Canon City. ~uneral services and burial was in Canon City.&#13;
Kr. Dittmar was born November 17, 1903.&#13;
Word of his death was received by Hrs. Hartha Semler. W'.nen the&#13;
Dittmar family lived in Ignacio in the 1940 they rented the Francis Jones&#13;
place on Ignacio hill, which is now the Jake Candelaria home. A brother&#13;
· and his family lived east of town for a number of years.&#13;
Mr. Dittmar is' survived by his wife and a son, Richard of Texas,&#13;
a brother and two sisters.&#13;

�The Rev. R. J. Hasstad celebrate his 100th birthday this thirtyfirst day of January 1979.&#13;
Born in the state of Iowa, January 31, 1879, he now makes his&#13;
home with his son Cecil and daughter-in-law Doris at their home in&#13;
Bayfield .&#13;
Rudolph J. Hassted, his wife, Frances and daughter, Dorothy moved&#13;
into the manse i n Ignacio i n January 1937.&#13;
He f irs t served as an assis t ant to the Rev. Lane C. Findley in&#13;
the churche s of the Larger Parish. Rev. Findley was preaching as&#13;
many as eight s ervices a week as he preached in the rural schoolhouses&#13;
of the area as well as holding services in the churche s. Later the&#13;
Ray W. Cornwell f a:nily cove d into the Bayfield !•.:anse. When t hey !'!loved&#13;
to- anothe: r fi eld Rev . Hasstedt h eaded the work in the Parish, sometines alone and soceti~es with assi s tant mini sters.&#13;
At a fifth Sunday Rally in the Ignacio Pre sbyterian Church at the&#13;
age of 70 Rev . Hasstedt preached h is retirement ser~on .&#13;
His accowplisl'l!uent in the years since coming here in 1937 had&#13;
been many.&#13;

cowing to Bayfield . His wife, Lena, died in 1975.&#13;

He was 1·fayor of Bayfield in the late l 930s .&#13;

�The Pine River TV Association i s badly in need for financial&#13;
support from its viewers . Operation of the T.V. translator station&#13;
has been difficult the past two years, because of a lack of funds .&#13;
During t he two years only 33~ of those using the TV services have&#13;
paid their dues - - --only ~10.00 a year, at that.&#13;
The translator station in the H. D.'s brings three channels&#13;
from Albuquerque to Bayfield, Ignacio and Florida Mesa.&#13;
For 1979 the Board of Direc tors of the Association is asking a&#13;
voluntary payment of ~15.00 a J'ear.&#13;
Future plans call for a dding a fourth channel P.B.s., the&#13;
education channel as well as replacing the existing 20 watt translators with 100 watt units. With the help of the viewers this can&#13;
be done.&#13;
The six ~ember board is headed by the chairman, Udell Cardon&#13;
and the secretary~treasurer, Geneva Olbert .&#13;
Dues may be mailed or brought in to the Bank of Ignacio, the&#13;
Bayfield Shur-Valu or the Bayfield Pine River Valley Bank.&#13;

The first Circle c::ee ting of the new year was Wednesday afternoon, January third in the ho::.e of Circl e presi dent, Hrs. Heinie&#13;
Gardner. A thank ycu was received frcm the Valley View Nursing&#13;
hooe for the Christmas gif ts sent by the Circle mecbers. A report&#13;
was given on the Ermmie group which is spons ored by the Circle.&#13;
The Brownie group consists of 18 , 5, &amp; 9 year old girls. They&#13;
hold their -weekly neetings at the school in November the Bro'i-mies&#13;
had a pinning cere~ony with mothers and Circle ~embers attending&#13;
in the Church annex. Krs. Shirley Snider is the leader of the&#13;
Brownie&#13;
group.&#13;

Plans for the year for the Circle were discussed. Hrs . Gardner&#13;
will continue to serve as president. Olive Dillon is the sewing&#13;
chairman.&#13;
The second meeting in January was scheduled for Wednesday the&#13;
17th in the Annex to work on the quilt.&#13;

The Christmas Party of the Pah- Chu-Chu-Club members was cancelled&#13;
because of the weather . Christr.ias gifts we re sent to Eventide residents .&#13;
The first meeting in January, on t he eighth, was at the Presbyterian&#13;
Church annex . The speaker for the program was Lorraine Duran, head&#13;
of the new Southern Ute Heal th Center . 1-Js. Duran traced the Heal th&#13;
Program of the Southern Utes from the ti~e the Taylor Hospital closed&#13;
and her mo ther, t~s . Edna Hood , headed the Clinic to the present.&#13;

John goes to New York University Law School and this summer will&#13;
work with the U. S. District Attorney's office in Newark, New Jersey .&#13;
Judy is preaching as an Associate Pas tor in the Presbyterian&#13;
Church in Basking Ridge . The Chendos noted the .Church was very&#13;
supportive of Judy in the quite unusual circumstances of a pregnant&#13;
minister . This Pari sh fared very well before J ohnny was born as&#13;
Judy was preaching eve ry Sunday .&#13;
